2003 Toyota Highlander

Toyota Highlander shares its basic structure with the Lexus RX 330, a luxury SUV from Toyota's premium division. Both are 5-passenger wagons; no 3rd-row seat is available. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard. An antiskid system and front side airbags are optional; curtain side airbags are unavailable. Sixteen-inch wheels are standard. For '03, Toyota Highlander exchanges its standard compact "space-saver" spare tire for the previously optional full-size spare. Top-line Limited models come with automatic climate control, power driver seat, and alloy wheels.

The Toyota Highlander is available in six configurations with two engines and two drive systems. 2WD front wheel drive models and all-wheel drive models are available with either a 4-cyl or V6 engine. The four-cylinder Toyota Highlander has a 2.4-liter dock variable valve timing (VVT-I) engine that produces 155 hp and 163 lb.-ft. of peak torque. The AWD system employs a bevel-gear center differential with a viscous coupling to divide engine power 50/50 front and rear. Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and brake assist. Optional add-ons include front-side airbags, curtain-side airbags and daytime running lights.
