2012 Infiniti FX SUV Big SUV Review

The success, at times, is a matter of timing. An attractive product and technology is not enough. At least not always. Take Infiniti: Nissan's luxury second is quite popular in Japan and the United States, where markets sell well for years and enjoys an excellent reputation. The decision to take him to Europe in 2008 is taken; too bad it's the worst time, economically speaking. The crisis bites and big SUVs are suffering. In four years of the  Infiniti FX manages to grow steadily: from 671 units delivered in 2009, the first year "full" marketing, it goes to 1,924 in 2011. The narrow range of engines - a 3.0 diesel with 240 hp, 3.7 V6 petrol and a 320 V8 5-liter petrol 390 - does not help: the Japanese is only 1, 8% of its segment.

FRONT ON AN ESSENCE CONCEPT
not everyone will remember, but the Essence concept is the inspiration for the facelift of FX. The front grille was redesigned side; new profiles move the bumper, while the edges of the fog assume a teardrop shape. Also unknown are the alloy wheels 20-inch version of the GT, while two new body colors (blue and gray) are added to the range of colors previously available. Understand the differences, in short, require eye up and deep knowledge of the model. That said, the Infiniti FX SUV continues to be one of the more personal and dynamic, thanks to cutting off the tail of a coupe, the gigantic wheel (in which they move wheels 20 or 21 inches) and width XXL: 1.93 meters well.

DYNAMICS WITHOUT EXCESS
mechanically, the model year 2012 does not introduce anything new. The 3.0 V6 diesels always have 238 HP and have the full delivery of its most outstanding talent. However, if a few years ago were the best levels of the German competition, now begins to feel the weight of years. Not so much from the point of view of performance, as from that of noise. The voice is heard in the V6 with a certain decision, especially under hard acceleration. Acceleration does not match, our feelings, and 550 Nm and 238 hp delivered by the engine: the 2,175 kg are being felt all. More "lean" than expected, however, the  Infiniti FX is revealed between the curves. Thanks also to the four-wheel steering (standard on S, not available on the GT) and -- adjustable, the maximum weight of Japanese moves with agility if not bantamweight, by the maximum average at least, yes. The steering is quite direct and the contribution of the rear steering is very noticeable. Add to that developed by the impressive grip tires 265/40 - 21, able to meet head-on the overwhelming "presence" of the car.

At 130 KM / H IN A "BUBBLE"
At constant speed, the engine stops being intrusive. Concern is the rubber-sized American rapper: do not worry, the soundproofing of the wheel is very accurate and defilement rolling noise filters into car. Exemplary of the absence of wind noise and isolation from the valleys, only disconnections driest generate some shock, mostly because of the lowered shoulder of the tire.

IN FOUR WITH ALL THE COMFORT
the external forms require it, and opening the rear doors is confirmed: the  Infiniti FX is not designed to "hosted" abundant. The sloping roof is not exactly an invitation to board, even if, once we were, the space is there. Indeed, in two it offers every comfort, wrapped seats from restraints but never coercive. Thus, even if the driver is in a hurry, do not risk to slide from side to side of the passenger compartment. As for the luggage, the dynamism of forms is back, because the strong inclination of the rear window is not allowed to obtain large spaces. In setting up 5 seats are available 410 liters (just over a compact C-segment as the Golf, 350 liters), while breaking down the rear seats to get to 1,305 liters.

If luxury brand to be, what luxury is: the cheaper version of the list, the GT features standard, just to name a few: the electric sunroof, adaptive xenon headlights, alloy wheels 20-inch The privacy windows, leather seats heated and ventilated, Bluetooth hands free, automatic transmission with paddles behind the steering wheel, rear camera and smart key. Accessories that German competition (read BMW X6 and Porsche Cayenne) you pay handsomely. The 2012 FX is already ordered, but you will have to wait for the first quarter of 2013 to buy
Vettel Edition: a very special  Infiniti FX for the two-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Driven by a 420 hp V8 5.0 brought, has important aesthetic and aerodynamic modifications.
