2004 Nissan Murano

Nissan added the Murano crossover sport utility vehicle to its lineup in December 2002. The Nissan Murano drives almost as well as a luxury sports sedan, but carries cargo like a Honda Pilot sport-utility. The Murano is a crossover vehicle, designed to haul cargo like a sport-utility, but ride and drive like a car. The Murano is different from most crossovers, however, in that it's biased toward the car part of the equation. It offers more of a car-like ambience and handles better on pavement than competitors like the Pilot and Toyota Highlander. One look is all it takes to know how different the Murano is.

Offered in SL and SE trim levels with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the Nissan Murano has a four-wheel-independent suspension and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Nissan says the Murano’s wraparound surface construction features a sloping hood line and a steeply raked windshield. Aerodynamic enhancements include an under-engine body cover, front and rear tire deflectors, a chin spoiler and a rear spoiler. The Nissan Murano rides a 111.2-inch wheelbase, measures 187.6 inches long overall and stands 66.5 inches tall; it rides on 18-inch tires. High-intensity-discharge headlights and a sport-tuned suspension are installed on SE models.

Nissan promises first-class seating on sculpted seats. An available Vehicle Dynamic Control system improves stability by controlling brake pressure and engine torque.Standard features include dual-stage front airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtain-type airbags. The seat belts have pretension and load limiters. Active head restraints for the front seats are installed. All-disc antilock brakes have Brake Assist and electronic brake-force distribution.

With little variation in the looks and styling of minivans and SUVs (boxy, high ride height, big wheels), Nissan surprised consumers with the introduction of its Nissan Murano crossover in 2003.  The 2004 Nissan Murano offers a new manual mode on the CVT in the sportier SE trim.  Other additions include a 10-way power driver's seat (previously a mere 8-way) and pre-wiring for satellite radio.  All trims come with six airbags, ABS brakes, full power features, foglights, cruise control, a rear window wiper, leather trim, and keyless entry.  A sunroof, memory settings, navigation system, adjustable pedals, and leather seats are optional.

The rear seats easily fold flat for 82 cubic feet of storage space, and a cargo net and cover are available.
