Has Mercedes-Benz SUV Sells 2 Million Units

After more than three decades (since 1979) to market a sporty utility vehicle (SUV), G-Class, Mercedes-Benz managed to sell two million units. Now, the SUV has become one of the most important model for Mercedes because it accounts for one fifth of total global sales.

Achievement of 2 million units derived not only from the G-Class, but also advanced models, such as the M-Class, R-Class, GL-Class and GLK-Class, which continues to show upward trend. During 2010 alone, total sales of SUVs Mercy worldwide rose 24 percent to 221,518 units. Largest contribution came from the United States and China.

"Our whole family is very popular SUVs, particularly in the U.S. and China. With the launch of the first SUV in 33 years ago, we made it into segments that are now very successful with a total of five models," said Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars, as reported by Leftlinenews, Monday (02/01/2012).

Mercedes hopes the global SUV market growth continues to increase until this year. For preparation, was prepared four new generation of M-Class, GL-Class, G-Class and GLK-Class to boost sales in the world.

In addition to sedans, SUVs continue to work on a number of luxury car manufacturers the world to date, including BMW, Audi, Infinity, Lexus, and Porsche, and who recently was Maserati Kubang.
